Stone Mountain Park is the most visited attraction in the State of Georgia with 4 million tourists a year. We are just 15 minutes away from there!

The park is built around the world’s largest piece of exposed granite (that’d be Stone Mountain). 

It is also famous for the giant stone carving on the side of the mountain. Many people want it to be removed, because it depicts the portraits of Confederate generals, but it is here so far.

Climbing Stone Mountain is a favorite adventure in our family. The walk up trail is 1.3-mile long and pretty steep, but the spectacular panoramic views make it worth the effort.  

You can see amazing views of the Atlanta skyline, the Appalachian Mountains and more up to 60 miles away.

Tip from the locals: Even young kids (3-5 years old) are able to climb Stone Mountain, it takes about 30 minutes. We love to bring snacks and have a picnic on the top of the mountain. 

The playground at the bottom of the mountain is one of the best climbing experiences for kids in the area. It has a park for toddlers and a more challenging climbing facility for older kids.

There are so many family-friendly activities in Stone Mountain Park, that you want to make multiple trips there. Here are the most beloved attractions:

Summit Skyride. This high-speed Swiss cable car transports guests more than 825 feet above ground to the top of Stone Mountain. 

Geyser Towers. Multiple levels of suspended rope bridges and net tunnels connect you to towering platforms that overlook the gushing geyser. Toddlers can splash in a trickling creek.

Laser Show. The Laser show at night is a must if you are in Stone Mountain during the Summer. The lights are choreographed with toe-tapping tunes and take-your-breath-away pyrotechnics.  

Dinosaur Explore. It features 20 life-size dinosaurs with special effects allowing them to move and roar just like their ancient ancestors!

Locomotive. Climb aboard the Scenic Railroad for a trip around the mountain or putter around at Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf.
